Gear Selector "Grip"

First of all, I hope that those of you who were able to head to the southeast had a great weekend of good food and fellowship, and that your return trips are safe and uneventful. Has been a cold and snowy weekend in the northern Colorado Rockies.

So... the "grip"/handle/end-thingy -apologies for the highly technical terminology- on my gear selector (2003, F350, 7.3L, CC, Lariat, 4r100) is trying to migrate off the selector lever. It resists being pushed back on with reasonable force - and remains with approximately 3/8 of an inch gap between the grip and the conical collar... It has been this way for a long time and I've just kind of tried to ignore it, but there comes a time... I have not pulled the grip the rest of the way off to examine it for retaining detents/slots or whatever, as I have been unable to find a schematic that tells me what I may be dealing with.

Does anyone have any direct (or secondhand) experience with this relatively minor annoyance?
