Looks like my 97 E04d has bit big time and needs to be at best rebuilt or for the sake of time I may consider just replacing the transmission and torque converter. Does anyone have experience with replacement transmission, a vendor, etc as well as torque converter, several have mentioned a billet converter, is it worth the money. Thanks for any suggestions
Yes I realized my mistake as soon as I hit the post button, with that said I have noticed several sites indicate a Diesel E40D is there a difference in casings or integrity of internal parts, appreciate all your help
All diesel E4OD cases are the same. Pre-1995 diesel E4ODs were not as strong as the later ones. I would expect a good rebuilder to upgrade an earlier trans to the later hardware.
Watch, hes gonna end up with a C6 with the wrong bellhousing pattern and a brand new overdrive unit from gear vendors and he will have gotten it for dirt cheap.
Kinda like falling upwards or failing your way to success

Yes, and yes.
I took the 1995+ E4OD diesel parts and put them inside my 1994 E4OD gas case.
Internal parts are the same, the bell housings are different.
1995+ parts and or diesel parts may be better. Examples include the 3, 4 and 6 pinion planets, that also come in aluminum or steel.
Depends on what you are building and what purpose your going to use it.
