is it just me or are there more pop up ads since Jan. 1st? these things are driving me crazy and in some cases they lock up my computer. it gets to be quite aggrevating. i suppose nothing can be done about it either.
Here's what I did. I use IE6. Open Tools(on the browser bar at top of screen),then Internet Options, then click Security, then click Restricted sites. There, click the Sites link right below it. Add the URL's for the sites that keep popping up. When a new one pops up, add that URL as well. It works good for me, and free too(nothing more to download).
Ford79,
Why didn't I think of that! What a great idea. When I do a search I often get a pop up window with the search from a different engine. I'll try that. Thanks for the tip.
You can disable scripting of java applets and active scripts through IE security settings. Guaranteed to stop every one of those nuisances. Of course, some of your own frequently visited sites may use Java for a somewhat beneficial purpose, e-mail as an example. All you need do is re-enable the aforementioned options and refresh the page to restore functionality.
>Has anyone gotten any of those network messanger ads yet?
>These use Windows network messanger (not HTML) to spam
>ads.....extremly annoying!!
Those things were driving me nuts. I finally found out that if you turn off the MS Messenger, (which I didn't use anyhow), they would stop. HOOOOORAYY!!
Go to download.com and download adaware. Clean out your registry with it. It will stop all popups not caused by the current website you are in. I got popups once everytime I opened internet explorer. My homepage was FTE. It wasn't FTER causing it. Adaware took care of the problem and made my computer speed up considerably.
