I am fitting my new running boards on my 49. If I bolt them down in the factory bracket holes they are way off matching the curves to the fenders. In order for them to match the curves on the fenders I got to push them in more and drill new holes in the brackets. If I do this I will need to make a plate to fill in the space at the
top mounting ear that bolts to the rear fender. This space is where the blue tape is on the rear fender.
Hard to see the exact holes from your photo. Have you tried mounting to the fenders and then the brackets. When I did mine one side was a lot harder to get lined up.

When I mounted my new running boards, I fitted them to the front fenders, drilled holes, had to slot the holes, then slowly sinch down the bolts, then aligned the boards to their mount holes. This worked pretty well for me and the boards fit fairly snug to the front fenders. Haven't done the back yet.
I think I will also make a doubler plate for the inside of the fenders once the back fenders are done. For now I just used fender washers.
Thanks' Ford Brothers. It was a very strange warm day today so I put two coats of herculiner on them. I plan on driving this truck and since its not a show truck I like the look of them done like this.
