I have a 06 f250 5.4L that is hard to start.
A little back story on this truck, the engine was replaced some years ago with an engine that has a date code of 07-02-08. Not sure if I should mention that or not, I just know the spark plugs were different than what the original engine was. So I don’t know what else is different and you get an idea of what I’m looking at.
The truck is harder to start when cold (like 10-15 seconds) when warm it’s easier to start 3-6 seconds). I have replaced the spark plugs, as I was getting a cylinder 6 misfire and it was overdue. It was doing it before I changed the plugs just figured I would go ahead and get that done. I monitored fuel pressure with a scan tool and was getting ~43psi koeo and ~40psi koer. I’m assuming the fuel pressure sensor is good. The truck is weak on power, but sometimes at wot you can feel it like “free up” then back to low power. This occurs over and over (haven’t tested it since plugs were changed) Temp sensors looked good as well.
Any ideas on what else could be going on? Thanks in advance!
The mileage on the truck is in the high 300k. Cluster has been changed, idk the precise answer. When I was doing the plugs I had to unhook the ECM connectors to get to the passenger side rear plugs, so the ECM got reset. I told the boss to drive it and see what codes we get, that was my next step. I just got done with a service on the truck, as it was well overdue, and the fuel coming out of the old fuel filter was pretty gross almost black. I'm about to take it to lunch and see how it does before I turn it over to the boss so he can drive it to complete the drive cycle. Thanks for the reply!
Whats the story on black gunk in fuel , that sounds bad . I am helping a guy who has grey algae in his tank for letting it sit for two years . I think its in his injectors but its and old 96 f150 inline and we have to pull intake manifold to get to injectors, then maybe we can do a diy you tube cleaning . Throttle body is dirty too .
You need to lay your rails out on newspaper to see what pattern you get or do a cats pressure test to see if they are blocked .
