94 F250 IDI factory turbo
I am trying to remove the injection pump and not having any luck getting the pump with lines attached out. Is there a trick to doing it on a factory turbo engine? All the articles and videos I have found are of N/A engine's.
. Is it ok to remove some or all of the lines from the pump to get it out? I know I don't want to remove the timing gear cover. I also don't want to remove the turbo if I don't absolutely have to. Does it help to twist it a certain direction, maybe drink a six pack, or scream obscenity at it. That's pretty much where I am at with it right now. Any advice would be appreciated.
You can remove the injector lines off the pump, but remember which cylinder they go to as they are all different. I used a piece of masking tape on each line and wrote with a sharpie what cylinder number it was.
You are correct on leaving the pump gear cover alone. Even if there’s an apocalypse, never ever unbolt it lol. I’ve never been under the hood of an IDIT, so I’m no help on what needs to come off to get the injection pump out.
Did a google search, looking at an engine bay pic, with the lines off you should have enough room to slide back and lift up and out? Might need to unbolt that throttle cable bracket for more space. Hopefully somebody with a turbo will chime in and correct me if I’m wrong.
You can absolutely remove the lines from the pump, its just a royal pita.. Having the proper wrenches helps and labels and pictures will also help.
There is no need to remove the turbo.
Update, I got it off quite easily after removing only 2 lines. It will be a while before I can attempt to put the new one in hopefully it's as easy in reverse. Thanks for the diagram
