Hello new to the forum and new to the ford Rangers. Just picked up a nice 2wd 5 speed 2.3? And just had some concerns I’d like to get opinions on or advice.
Engine temp stays just inside range but barely on the cold side, not sure if that’s normal? Then my stick shifter vibrates so bad, previous owner said it’s normal for a smaller engine manual, I don’t think I believe it though, the sound from the vibration echos in the cab, under the boot the bolt holding in the stick is tight, not sure where the movement is coming from or if I just need to insulate it somehow to soothe the vibration, other than the vibration/noise, the stick shifter operated very very nice and smooth. Surely I’ll be back with more concerns but that’s all for now till I can get a closer look at it, only had it for 3 hours. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
The 2.3 should run as smooth as any engine, the low temp reading could be a weak thermostat, the shaking could be a miss in the engine, run a code test first.
replace the thermostat.
crawl under and look at the big collar on the front of the drive shaft, it should not wobble around. check out the U joints for any movement.
