I have a 07 F350 that I am about to replace the injectors and turbo. The truck has 200k and I am contemplating bullet proofing at the same time. Is it worth doing with this high of mileage? Pros and cons. The truck is bone stock. I only drive it to tow my boat. I have put 10k on it in 3 years.
I’d like to get a bit more power with a tuner if possible.
Any input is greatly appreciated
Would need more info on the condition of your truck. How are you ECT/EOT deltas? Do you still have the EGR cooler? Any head gasket issues? Many never touch the head gaskets or bolts. With an 07 you have the latest "commonized" heads.
I completely agree with the if it ain’t broke. But my thoughts were if we are already tearing into the motor for the injectors and turbo. What could it hurt. My mechanic has frowned on adding any type of tuner without bullet proofing. With the pricing of trucks these days it cheaper to put 10k into this. I am just Looking to make it as reliable as possible
I would leave it. A really good cooling system flush early on works wonders for longevity (helps prevent oil cooler from clogging). I am at 245k on original head gaskets not "bulletproofed." Only major issue I had was the oil cooler ruptured at 180k (oil in degas tank), so I replaced the oil cooler and put in an upgraded BPD EGR cooler while in there.
I tried the Atlas 40 for a very short while and my gas mileage went down with equivalent driving style, so stock it remained...I was also not interested in having to 'monitor' my EGTs while towing.

You aren't really going that far into the motor for injectors & turbo so I would do the minimum and run it.
Curious, what is driving you to replace the injectors & turbo? I know there are some guys still running stock injectors with over 200k miles on them around here.
I'm with another person that is asking why you are doing anything to the injectors and turbo to begin with?
If you've only driven that vehicle 10k miles in 3 years to just tow a boat, then I'm not sure what the plan is overall for the long term. Obviously, anyone can do whatever they want with their money so you can do whatever you want. But if the truck pulls your boat fine, then why is there a need to do anything to it?
If there is actually some problem or issue that is happening while towing your boat, then I can understand wanting to do something. But unless you're having some major problems getting up and down the hills that you drive or your engine and oil coolant temps are getting out of whack, then I'm not sure why there would be a need to do anything. As others have said, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".
Are you towing a 6k or 8k boat or a 10k or 12k boat that is maybe putting a little more stress on your truck?
I'm not saying that a person shouldn't do things to prevent future potential problems from happening. That's fine. But if you own this truck another 20 years, at the rate you're driving it now, it's only going to have another 70k on it which is not really much of anything. It seems like it would be a lot of money spent to not really gain anything if the truck is performing as it needs to. If you're needing more power because it's not pulling the boat well enough, I guess you can do what you want but if the turbo and injectors are performing really close to what they need to be, then replacing them isn't going to change anything other than just them being "newer" in the truck. And that doesn't provide anything in terms of performance. It also doesn't guarantee that they will last for the next 20 years. Unfortunately, newer parts can fail as well too. Not always but it does happen.
I don't know that doing a "tow tune" would really hurt anything and that would add some performance (if that's what you're wanting) but I wouldn't do anything above that since you're in stock form. If you're wanting to replace some parts because you feel they are "getting old" due to the mileage, then that's fine. But again, you won't necessarily see any improvement with drivability, fuel mileage, power, starting, and etc. if your current parts are working correctly.
Adding studs, getting heads checked or r&r'ing new, compiling all the necessary items to do it correctly is not just "tearing into the engine" like you say. It is a major job and if done incorrectly it can be a hassle later....just fyi
