I have a 2004 excursion rwd with a 6.0. Getting ready to replace the hydroboost, power steering gear, power steering pump and all lines. What is the proper sequence to bleed everything so I don't tear anything up in the process?
Engine OFF !!!
turn the wheel lock to lock 5 times
depress brakes 3 times
that is one full cycle.
repeat 50 full cycles.
start engine and test turn lock to lock and brake.
Any whining whatsoever, immediately stop engine. Wait several hours ( overnight is better ) repeat 25 full cycles.
once you hear the whine you have air bubbles in your fluid and further bleeding is pointless until the bubbles come out of suspension. *Get it frothy enough and you need to change the fluid and start over.
* these are the guys who will tell you all ford power steering whines.
