Bought my '77 in 1986, still had OEM Motorcraft module on the fender. When I retired in 2010, in 2012 I went to work at AAP part time, drove the truck to work one day, assistant manager liked it but first thing he said when open hood was "Wow, you still have the original ignition box?". I said yeah, but that I had a spare in a box stashed since a trip in '89, it was one I bought cheap at a surplus store for Wilson Trucking. He said was a wonder it worked. Couple years later, driving home one hot day the truck died. I popped the hood, saw guts had melted out onto the inner fender. I poured my cold soda on it, truck started, I went home. I pulled the then 15 year old but never used new odd ball (I forget manufacturer) spare out of my behind seat storage, I found that it had spilled it's guts too ... all inside the box it was taped in. It did work though, but I bought a new Motorcraft at work next day.

I think I'm gonna build a box to both space it away from the fender apron for airflow ... and to shield it from engine heat too. I also still carry a spare.
