I have a 77 that has a 351m with an upgraded intake manifold. I'm buying a 75 from a buddy of mine that has a 390 in it. I'm going to put the 390 in my 77. I was wondering if the intake from my 351m will work with the 390?
Negative. 390’s are part of the FE engine family. FE intakes are a little odd and unlike other engines. If you look at the valve cover, it actually sits partially on the intake. I believe the pushrods also go through the intake.
Be aware that all FE engines become 390s on sale day. Before you buy, check the stroke. 3.5" is a 360, 3.78" is a 390. As OEM, a 4x4 never had a 390.
Also note that while a '75 390 will outpower a '77 (or any other year) 351M, the pickup 390 is not some firebreather and is "soft" compared to the performance engines in cars.
So make sure all that work you're going to do gets you what you want.........and good luck!

So long answer short, no.
I was thinking it wouldn't work. Just wishful thinking I guess haha.

THe 75 with the 390 is a 2wd truck.
basically I was just wanting a little more power. I feel like the 351m in my 77 is lacking a good bit.
351m/400 intakes have been unobtainable for over a year, you shouldn’t have any trouble selling it. A used US made Weiand just sold for 285 on that auction site this week.
The intake is the least of your problems. the 390 isn't going to bolt to your transmission / bellhousing or much of anything else. if you can steal some parts off the donor vehicle it will make it easier.

OK. I might put my old intake back on the 351m before I put it in the 75.

Well crap. I figured I could take the bell housing from the 75 and use it with the motor.
The bell will bolt up to the transmission, so if you have a manual transmission bell and clutch on the 390 it should bolt up to the transmission. Engine mounting and exhaust etc will have to be sorted out.

Yep I didn't even think about the exhaust. Thank you sir
I have an Edelbrock Performer for a 351M that I replaced when rebuilding. It has some pitting on a couple of the runner ports where it meets the head. If anyone wants it let me know. Maybe we can work something out.
