I was a member here for years, mostly about F250 IDI diesels. 4 years ago, i sold my 1994 F250 for something newer. It was in great shape, the fellow who bought it had his mechanic come over and all he looked at was the radiator core support. he knew if that was in good shape, so was the rest of the truck. I didn't know that the fellow who bought the truck was nick-named, "CRASH", and he totaled it within a month. It didn't need to be totaled--the damage was all front end sheet metal, but the insurance company totaled it anyway.
So i have been away from Ford for a while, but now I am back. A friend bought a 1938 1/2 ton about 15 years ago, and I helped him with it. It now has a good rolling chassis, but the body work has stumped him and he hasn't touched it for 4 or 5 years. I offered to help, so now the cab, fenders and other sheet metal is in my garage. I will clean, repair and paint,
I will post details of what I need in the appropriate forum.
Glad to be back.
I think "frustrated" is more like it. "Frustrated" and distracted. He also has a '53 Dodge 1 and 1/2 ton that is closer to being drivable and he prefers that project right now.
As for my owning the '38--well maybe, someday. It is close to original. Unfortunately he removed the period-correct engine that was in it ( 1938 85 HP) because it had a couple of cracks. he replaced it with the later model flathead for '53 or so. If I were to become the care-taker, I would want the correct engine. He also has not determined his paint colors and I don't think he will be confined to original/ authentic colors---although he might.
I will do my best to use the correct colors ---if I only knew what they were! I am not talking about the body colors--I can get those color charts. What I need to know is what was originally painted black on all pickups--and what sheen or glass was used. So far i think the engine splash pans ( inner fenders) were black, as well as the floor sections. The entire cab would have been painted at the same time--firewall, inside and out so that should all be one color. What about the undersides of fenders? Were they "bonderized" or painted black regardless of the finished color or was color sprayed on the underside as well?
Lots of questions.
You will most likely need to visit one of the forums for the paint questions
I think someone on here will have answers for you
To each his own (meaning If I were to get an old one like that I'd be looking in to a coyote motor for it)
Good luck Pilgrin6
