Hello! New user to the site, i have a 1993 bronco 5.0 and just bought a new steering box. However, turns out i made a mistake and its the wrong one. I believe its a 1997 f150 box. It fits the three bolt mounts fine, but the splines and “flat areas” on the top do not match up with those of the steering shaft joint as theyre supposed to. I cant return the box, and its already in. Any ideas for what i can use? Are steering shafts pretty universal as far as fitting between f150 and ford? Thanks!

Yes all about the same except for the sector shaft difference (3 or 4 dead splines)
With the gear in the truck you could swap out the sector shaft with the 3 spline you need
That is easy for a guy like me who has overhauled a few hundred gears
If you are just learning the difference between the two sectors it may be a bit much of a job
You could also just switch the pitman arm to the 4 dead spline variety
Good luck and why the Ford hell did they do that anyway?
Programmed obsolescence?
