I removed the front springs on my 52 F1. There is a wedge under the driver side springs but not under the passenger side. Is there supposed to be a wedge on both sides? If so, do you know of a supplier for this piece?
Many thanks for your help!
Jimmy
If your talking about the wedge between the leaf spring and axle, that’s the caster shim. I had the same thing but mine was only on the passenger side. I actually took my 49 f1 to the alignment shop today with no shims in to see what degree of caster shim I need. Turns out my caster is different on each side. Most likely my axle was twisted or in a wreck and might have taken the shim out. If your truck/ build can be taken to an alignment shop, I would.
I have a 52 F1, and I believe (if memory serves) that the spec for castor shim correction is 4.5 degrees. Both side should be the same assuming your frame isn't tweaked out of alignment. The experts here suggested I should shoot for a 4 to 6 degree adjustment but said going even higher would be okay. I have a thread from a few years back entitled, "Wheels and Tires", that goes into quite an in-depth discussion about getting the most out of a stock front suspension. Good luck and welcome!
