Hey everyone, I am sure this has been answered but nothing came up in my search. I just finished replacing my old 1bbl carter with a remanufactured one. I will be hooking a vacuum gauge up to it later this evening to dial everything in. The choke is all set, but I fell like my fast idle is very high. It is sitting at the top of the gear. This is probably a very dumb question as well as an easy adjustment, but how do I bring that down and have it set lower on start up? I know you blip the pedal before you start it up to set it, it just seemed way too high so I blipped the pedal again to disengage it and kept the idle high with my foot until the choke opened up enough.
What year truck are we working on?
If the fast idle is staying on then the choke is not set right.
How it the choke set up? Is it a hot air asst. or full 12 volts to make it open?
I take it when cold the choke is closed?
When you hit the throttle to kick it off fast idle how long was it running before you did that and was the motor up to temp?
Just like the other adjustments they all need to be adjusted for best performance.

It is common for the hi-idle cam to gum up and stick. Find the cam on the choke linkage. Unscrew the big head shoulder screw that holds the cam on. Clean the screw and cam with solvent or carb cleaner.
Reinstall and open the throttle by hand while watching the weighted cam drop down. The fast idle adjustment screw will now be holding the throttle open by resting in the cam. Back off the idle screw to attain a fast idle speed of 1100 RPM.
