I have a '71 that came from the factory in Candyapple red. Was that really a candy color like red over silver or was that just a cool name for that shade of red? Looking at the interior which I believe is the original color, it doesn't look like real candy to me. Trying to figure out what I am going to do for the repaint.

I'd love to see your truck. I just bought a '70 XLT that came from the factory in Candyapple red. Repainted. Unfortunately, the hood isn't the original. It looks to me the color of the hood is more of a rangoon red.
Wow! Is that your truck? Looks very nice. My truck is in my profile pic, all primer right now. The interior is the only place with what I believe is original paint and it looks pretty good but needs a freshen up as well. I was toying with going back with a two tone with the original red and white but that looks pretty good all red.

It is! Was lucky to find something local. It has a little bit of rust here and there but I wanted a driver, not a garage queen. I'd say go for the full Candyapple Red. Its a nice deep red that's darker than the Rangoon Red.
81 F100 with candy apple red & white.I can tell you it have a lot of clear in it as it took many coats to cover.
Just a cool name as it is not a candy color mix of color over silver or gold.

This shows the years that Ford used the color. It is a popular Mustang color as well. My 1970 F-250 is candy apple red basecoat/clearcoat. Quite a bit more shiny that original but the tone matches the the original interior color exactly. https://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorco...%20Red&rows=50
