my zf5 is making a whirring noise when the engine is running, and it stops when I hit the clutch pedal, maybe throwout bearing?
squeak is me hitting the clutch, the noise goes away as I hit it
so far this truck has lots and lots of little noises that concern me, currently ive gotta chase down a coolant leak (passenger front tire has coolant running down it)
other than that its 2 rims, 6 tires and a bed, mirrors and itll be good to go
Drop inspection plate and check to see if you have a dual mass flywheel problem, if equipped. I posted pictures of the back and front of a SMF for reference on the 7.3DI section.
Tough to tell on audio from compressed video, but sounds like just depressing the clutch to me aside from squeak. Also, spend $20 and buy new Ford bushings for your pedal box. Quick rebuild and the clutch works better...gravity flush the hydraulics too.
Mine makes all sorts of sounds but it is a single mass fly with a 7.3DI and clutch kit with maybe 40k on it. Last TOB I heard was real bad. Guess I drive too much old stuff.
If you do need a clutch kit, the Luk kit is very durable behind these. It runs about $300 plus ffreight. I read a while back about 7.3DI kits being used behind the IDI. A search on Oilburners will give all needed detail.
On the bushings, you would be surprised at the wear with age.
Yes, but you've got to drop the transmission to do it anyway. If I've got to drop a transmission, unless I *know* the clutch is very low mileage, I replace the clutch, just to save me the trouble of having to drop the transmission *again* when the clutch inevitably wears out.
I get your point, I dont wanna drop it a second time, but the money for a clutch kit is more than I got, as I get work (Im starting my own company, this is a work truck) i will be able to afford a clutch kit in a few months, currently ive gotta worry about it being road legal, getting tires and a bed
