Recently, I cleaned my throttle body and surrounding components of carbon buildup. Seems now I'm getting this code "evaporative emission control system leak detected (gross leak).
Did a quick look but did not see anything obviously wrong.
Any ideas where to look?
Did you physically remove tb to clean it? I'd look very carefully at any lines or hoses you disturbed. A smoke machine is perhaps the easiest way to diag this if everything looks ok visually. They can be had on Amazon relatively affordably but it's still a specialty tool the average Joe might not want to invest in
You can try the old brake cleaner/carb cleaner trick but I've almost never had luck with this.
And for giggles....just make sure your gas cap is tight
Actually, I just had a smog test and they said my gas cap was faulty and threw it away and gave me a new one so I will check the cap.
They have done this before even though my other gas caps would not throw any codes. Maybe there's something about their caps. Seems like in the past I've removed their caps and added a simple AutoZone cap with no problems.
I also wonder why these smog places have on hand a cap that will fit my truck?
Somethings going on here.
I did physically remove the tb and surrounding components and cleaned with carb cleaner.
Been doing this for years as regular maintenance.

Reason: Addition
Usually when I get a "check engine" light I get right on it and see what's going on. The c e l just came on two weeks after the cap change. I just now deleted the cel from the truck and TIGHTEN the cap. If that cap is faulty then the cel should comeback on shortly....we'll see. If the cel reappears then I will go buy another one from AutoZone since they don't throw a code. I'll keep the SMOG cap and put it back on at the next smog event.
