Hey guys, have a 1977 f150. not 100% sure what axles under her. but looking at replacing the hubs and was wondering your opinions. Originality isnt my main concern just want something thats going to be reliable and hold up to mild wheeling. Thanks in advance guys!!!
You should have a Dana 44 and in that case you’ll probably snap an axle way before you snap any stock or aftermarket hub.
what’s wrong with your current ones?
I have stock for hubs on my Dana 60 (f350) and have warn premium ones on my Dana 44 (Bronco). Cant say I like one or the other any better and they both work as they are supposed to.
Mild wheeling with a stock Dana 44, yes you will either have this happen below. Or more than likely blow a front axle u joint or front d/s u joint before you blow a hub. 1st pic is not mine, but it can happen easy enough. The rest are on my 73 Bronco Dana 44, 35" boggers, front locker, 302 and stock Spicer axles. Warn standard lock in/lock outs have held up just fine over the years. https://www.4wheelparts.com/p/warn-s...BoCpUAQAvD_BwE
Never had a problem with the stock ones. I have used Mile Marker and Warn hubs in the past with no problems. Last set I bought was Mile Marker just because shiny.
im in the process of restoring my 1977 f150 and the old hubs are leaking and the plastic is faded and also has damage from PO. so figured id just go ahead and change them out. TBH i like the look of the Warn or the Mile Marker hubs. But ive never installed a set of locking hubs before so wondering how difficult that is to accomplish.
A leak is a simple as an outer o ring. You can heat treat (watch u tube where the guy heat treats plastic seats). Or WD40 to bring back the color. Replacement hubs are easy swapping if going with the same style. But yeah a PO pliers job to lock them in and out will eat them up.
I have always liked superwinch. The company was sold or went belly up a few years back so these are not made anymore; might be a few of them on a shelf out there though. These are brand new but if/when they wear out some day I’ll be going in a different direction.
