Another old question. I have a chrome step bumper. Twice I have attempted to mount it on the rear
of my 75 F-150. However the newer frame rails are closer together. It came from rack at a vintage vehicle
bone yard...ie Jacks Auto Ranch here in Wisc. It may not even fit a Ford at all. I will try to send a picture.
Those brackets are suppose to mount on the outside of the frame rails. If your frame is to narrow for the current bracket set up, you are going to have to fab some spacers. Like square or rectangle heavy wall tubing, depending on the space amount you need to fill. Might just be some 1/8 thick steel plate pieces on each side.
Figure it out using a tape measure and then make some cardboard pattern pieces,( for shape and bolt hole layout) and then take that pattern to a fab/welding shop and get them made.
The chrome bumper brackets are about 2 1/2" narrower then the frame rails on my 75 F-150. The gas tank fits almost tight to the
inside of my frame rails. That's why the original painted bumper is still mounted on my Stella. It would be an easy fix if the gas
tank was behind the seat in the cab. That space is taken up with a custom pie shaped speaker enclosure for my 8-track tape player.
That chromed step bumper is pretty scuffed looking, maybe just needs polishing. It also lacks at front lip that turns upward in front of tailgate, it looks to be thin wall, and it looks like the upper diamond plate is separated from the wide face of the bumper.
I know, it's not my truck but I think Stella has a better looking bumper covering her rear as is,
... plus it is easy to freshen up as needed. Looks real straight, unhit too.
I could be wrong, but those brackets and three holes don't look right to me either, too many holes I think. Might be off a Chevrolet or Dodge?

Then that bumper is REALLY NOT for that truck then. The gas tank is no matter, the bumper bolt nut plates are locked into the frame when a bumper is installed. At least it is on my 4wd 79 F250 that had a "sport"/contour bumper when I got it.
If the gas tank was in the cab you might be afraid of blowing up....or gas fume inhalation. Especially with your a/c blower motor not running right. Lol JK Slick up (repaint) Stella's bumper and go with it.
I agree its not the right bumper but if your going to do it, why not try option of using existing bumper mounts. Drill new holes in same location as existing bumper. Fill the unused holes with a carriage bolt thru the hole with a few stacked washers and a nut.
That idea I like. Stella is in the barn covered with bed sheets next to Kate...my 59 Ford Galaxie soft top (Sunliner)
The chrome bumper does polish up. The bad weld is not so bad when it's polished. Thank you.
I was thinking the same. I can't say as I have seen that specific type of chrome bumper on a dentside Ford but it does have the look of a Chevy bumper.
