My Brother in Law said he was going to put the Castrol Transmax DEX/MERC in his 92 E4OD trans this weekend. I don't recall if it is recommended. Pls advise before he adds it.
If the import is correct then why do they list a separate MERCON V fluid?
This sort of thing is *exactly* why i don't ever trust multi-spec ATF. Is it gonna work? Probably. Is it going to shorten the life of the transmission? Maybe? I just don't know.
He is exchanging it tomorrow (weather permitting) I am leaning to what yall are saying. He just needs to go with MerconV and be done with it. I wouldn't put that import stuff in my E4OD.
Thanks guys I appreciate your time to help,.
Frozen north of you in DFW...Mercon V replaced Mercon. I put cheapo stuff in my 4R100 over the summer, has not died and shifts fine. It was some basic Wallmart stuff called 'Universal ATF'.
I have used a lot of Mercon five past few years and hasn’t done me wrong yet.
Sure there’s only a handful places that actually make the stuff but why not spend a little extra for motorcraft’s QC because after all transmissions are an expensive pain in the butt to replace.
