Hi,
I have 2 computes -- and fortunately 2 monitors on my desk. They are cheap 'tv sets' and they are aging. So I'd like to replace them.
I like them because they have the array of input types that used to be common. They are NOT smart.
So, I'm looking for
19 inch
Antenna (with the digital tuning )
HDMI ( 2 would be welcome)
VGA
RCA
When I look at TVs, they seem to generally be supersized and 'monitors' don't have tuners.
I think that my current ones are 720p -- but my eyes are probably 440 p
They can be identical -- I either push the buttons or cover one of the remote ports.
I'm hoping that this is not another area where technology has marched on.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
hj
You can buy a 19" N10 Insignia Fire TV at Best Buy for $100 that would seem to be a candidate. Has everything you listed except the VGA port (you'd likely need an adapter if you require VGA now). No idea how it might look or work on your system....
19" screens are getting hard to find. It looks like the 24" screen is taking over the entry level of small inexpensive TV sets.
If you really have two computers and monitors on your desk, you might look into a switch to "move" the monitors, keyboard, and mouse from 1 computer to the other with the touch of a button. Both environments stay fully functional and there's no reason to "move" equipment to access the other computer.
Thanks guys I 'think I'm going to try Amazon -- I can get 24 " Insignias (with bleeping Fire on them ) for $99 each. Should fit OK. If not, back they go. I couldn't find any actual 19 inch units for that price -- and most of them were loaded with crap.
BF, I've done KVMs before and never liked them. Also, I sometimes extend the display on one compute to both monitors. Works well when you're editing something and grabbing info from other sources -- things like that. I WOULD like to get something that nobody makes. A keyboard with dual outputs - that you could send to one or the other compute. Differece would be that both outputs would always be connected, but the key presses would go to the encoder that you wanted.to use. Should work better -- but you can't get them
You might trying installing TeamViewer on both of the computers. It'll allow you a more robust connection between the two than Microsoft's remote desktop. Multiple monitor support, file transfer, etc. I don't know how it will behave if there's no physical monitor on the second computer, but it's easy and free to find out.
