Hey y’all, I have a 2000 F150 with a 5.4L. It has recently started exhibiting sluggish takeoff and seemingly reduced HP under load (constant lug uphill). The reduced HP feeling under a load is accompanied with a surge of sorts similar to a A/C compressor draw but more random with no rhythm. Keep in mind, AC is off. Something I noticed tonight, which initiated this post, is that when the truck is cold, it runs like a top! As soon it warms up just slightly (just a few miles of driving) it turns into a turd. What could be causing the difference in performance from cold open loop to warm closed loop?
You want to get into OnBoard Monitoring or Mode 6 and look for misfire counts. Also check Pending codes
That said I'm not sure misfires would be your only issue. Would be nice to see some live data as it sounds like an open/closed loop issue maybe. I'd be curious about ECT, STFT, HEGO, TPS and maybe fuel pressure just for giggles
