air not cold on acceleration

hey all, i had a question...i was driving today, it was in the 90s outside, so i had the windows up and A/C on, when i was getting on the freeway up the on ramp i had the pedal down to get my baby going and the air conditioner stopped being cold, but as soon as i got off the pedal hard and was just maintaining a steady speed it got cold again. its done it everytime that i accelerate hard, the A/C stops being cold for as along as i am pedal down, but then gets cold again when i let off or am maintinging a normal speed...i thought if the A/C was going out its the other way around, when your going slow or normal its wamer and when you get on it it gets cold, but thats not my case, anybody have any ideas?
thanks
Brian

The A/C clutch automatically disengages on heavy throttle because it robs the vehicle of power.

Sounds like it could be either very low on refrigerant charge or way too much charge. The compressor sounds like it quits cycling on when revved up due to low charge/pressure. If it doesn't cycle and stays on at idle, then the charge is too high. If it cycles requently at idle, the charge is too low. Good luck!

i think Ken is right. most cars and trucks cut out the AC at full throttle to put the HP into acceleration. i assum ethe F150 is like all the rest.

I believe most OEM A/C systems have implemented it this way for decades, even before computer controlled powertrains. I'm sure there are exceptions though. Most of the time in short bursts you won't notice it because there is enough residual coldness (for lack of a better term) in the system. At very high temps though you're going to see it soak up heat a lot faster at wide open throttle.

The F150 design began utilizing the WOT relay in MY 99. Prior models did not have any kind of WOT cutout, instead they controlled the compressor clutch directly via the cycling switch.
