Hello, I have an 06 Expedition that I am needing a motor for. I have been trying to find one that around 150000 or less miles on it. However, my budget being what it is I am having trouble finding one, even from salvage yards, that I can afford. I have seen 5.4 3 valve engines from Econolines that are less expensive than those from F-150's and other Expeditions. My question is this, I have been told that they are basically the same, but the intake and belt housing would have to be swapped from my Expedition for it to work. I have also been told that is not true. I'm not sure who to believe. The majority of those who have told me it will not work have both types for sale. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you need a 3v or a 2v motor?
The econoline series never got the 3v version.
It's not practical to swap between 2v and 3v motors, there are wiring changes, the PCM is different and it may not be compatible with your existing trans.
If you need a 3V motor you are limited to F series, Expeditions and Excursions I think.
