I'm getting ready to start my first car/truck project. It is swapping a '49 F4 cab onto a '97 Dodge 3500.
I have a title for the '49, but only a bill of sale for the '97. The '49 still has the plate in the glove box, but it is held on with sheet metal screws.
I've tried to find on the VA DMV site what is required for me to be able to register/title/get plates for the truck when it is done. Does anyone know what is required or where I can find out? I'd hate to finish the truck just to find out I can't drive it.
First: get the 49 titled in your name, in case there might be a problem. You don't have to register it, you can get a title only. Many here in VA have made "suspension modifications" without titling the frame
After a couple of tries, got my '49 titled. Turns out the DMV software reads the VIN as a station wagon. And they don't have anywhere in their system that a 1949 Ford F4 1ton is a real vehicle, even though the VIN plate says so.
So I had to register it as a 1 ton F1. Seriously? They only had F1, F2, or F3 available to choose from. . .
but it is all done and I have title in hand.
BTW they value a '49 F1 at $30k unless you have a bill of sale. Glad I did.
