Post 97 engine change

I have an '85 F-150 which is finally going to the great truck yard in the sky. (Just don't have the time to put into a restoration, and I think the poor beast was saddled with one of Ford's last carbs.) I am looking at a '97 F-150 with the 4.6 v-8. Someone told me that to remove the engines on these trucks that the cab had to come off, but I find that hard to believe. I did a search on the subject, but could find no hits. If anyone has the definitive answer I would like to know. The guy who told me heard it from his brother-in-law who works in the Norfolk assembly plant, so it has me worried, but sounds like bs to me. Thanks

probaly not have to take the cab off but the front clip my have to be removed. Just like anything the designers did not think about the mechanics when designing the truck... good luck!

In regard to your question about pulling your engine. My 97 150 is currently having its 5.4 replaced. I know as fact it was removed through the hood opening. The only piece of external sheet metal that was removed was the hood. However the radiator, fan shroud, exaust manifolds etc. were removed prior to removal.
