The 23 100% will have all new exterior. It will get all new skins. the reason they are camo and have fillers at the bottom of the bed is so you cant see the body lines. you can already see the new door handles in the camo.

The issue is the automotive companies panicked and cancelled their orders. Since demand is high we sell that capacity to other companies so when the automotive companies found that demand was still high and they wanted their chips they essentially had to go to the back of the line. That's the current automotive chip shortage. Poor planning on their part.

It has nothing to do with rare earth minerals or someone limiting chip production.
So if the auto manufacturers believed that, why wouldn't they just stockpile the chips/modules for when demand returned?

Didn't want to risk it and were running scared, Apple and Samsung did stockpile and still fell short.

Because that costs money in inventory and warehousing and affects cashflow. Also, you can be pretty sure that they believe they are big enough to get their way. If it’s an overseas supplier or linked to one, then any hesitation will cost you months of delays and months more of ripple effects.

Primary reason: Thats not how 'Just in time' manufacturing works. Auto makers have been using this approach to manufacturing since the 50's. Its not going to change overnight.

Secondary reason: There are thousands of different modules each manufacturer needs for every different vehicle they build. How many do you stock pile when you don't know how long the situation will last or what vehicles will be in demand?, where does the money to buy all this stuff come from? what happens for the next model year that all the sudden needs different modules yet again? Remember ford isnt the one buying the microprocessor/chips, they are buying modules built to order from company's like Bosch and siemens.

......and a change in the exterior right about where the price is on the window sticker.

Just trying to understand. What is a Ford Rep? Is it a salesman employed by a dealership? Is it a Ford employee who might know what they are talking about? What does "came in" mean? Did they interrupt you at work? Did they have a beer with you at home? I'm not asking you to testify before Congress or name names. Just help us to understand why this is credible.

If you take it one baby step further, does this mystery rep think that Ford and the dealer both will give up a sale (anywhere from 50-100K) for an item that can be installed anytime after the truck gets delivered, i.e. paid for

It is a corporate sales representative from ford motor company. They each have a certain amount of dealers they are zoned to. Basically a bridge between the corporate level and the dealer level for sales and service.

I know they have a schedule for 22 production…IE it will end on X date. If they know Ford wide they cannot complete any more orders why not stop taking them…aside from greed or just to keep rumor’s down…

I placed an order yesterday! So if they knew it will not be built…seems crazy, surprising…but in today’s world possible.

JIT.....just in time.

In the 1980's American manufacturing went to JIT. This was because a momentary disruption would not cause a problem. No one ever thought a pandemic would happen...modern medical, right? The world followed the US in JIT.

We did this to ourselves because of a greater profit margin if we didnt keep stock on the selves. Now folks cry we are losing money..... yep, cry me a river. You cant have it both ways. So will the manufacturer learn a lesson, nope. Ford wants to have no stock on hand at a dealership and only have orders. What could go wrong? Just look at today..
