curious. are the tailgate shells all compatible with each other?
meaning can a tailgate from say an xlt without the step and cameras etc.... take all the parts from a lariat or platinum?

reason I ask: I have a platinum and I hate the applique. I have looked into painting it or wrapping, but that is pretty expensive.
I have found a new takeoff gate local to me. It is off an XL or XLT truck, very basic. If I can swap all the components from the platinum gate to this one, it can accomplish my goat for far less $$

 

If the XL/XLT tailgate has no retractable step, your Platinum step cannot be swapped over because the internal structure is different.

See if you can find one with the step and all the other Plati-parts should transfer over. Me? I'd like to add the applique to my King Ranch.

 

You need to find one from a Lariat Ultimate. Maybe a kingranch non chrome will work if the emblem isnt rivitted.

Probably better off painting it, the door handle covers, and mirror caps. So it all flows.
