2001 F250 FWD 7.3. I have a small but annoying oil leak that I'm trying to track down. At first I thought it was the rear main seal, but looking into it further today, it seems to be coming from higher up on the motor. From underneath the truck, I can see where on the passenger side somewhere above the starter is where it appears to be coming from. When I drive 15 miles to work it leave around 4-5 drips on the concrete, all in one spot. My question is where would you start looking? I've had this truck just short of a year and y'all seem to usually know some shortcuts to trouble shooting. Truck has around 220,000 miles. Thanks in advance.
Its likely coming from the valley of the engine. There is a drain hole in the back of the valley of the engine that drains down the back of the engine and out another hole just above the starter motor.
I believe your leak maybe coming from the large nut that fastens the dipstick tube to the oil pan.
If it is, spend the $300 or so for the Billet oil pan dipstick conversion. Crawl under right front passenger door with flashlight. Shine light up above starter on side of oil pan.
Look for the 2" plus size nut that holds the dipstick mount. See if it is leaking? LIKELY
Plenty of notes on the forum and you tube about it.
