Dome light troubles
What was wrong with the original?
Basically, you probably have a direct short to ground, meaning the power feed from the fuse box to the light bulb is shorted to ground.
This could be a problem at the bulb socket, or a pinched wire.
You can determine if it is wiring or the new socket or incorrect bulb:
- unhook positive wire from socket, remove light bulb.
- insert new fuse.
- use volt meter,
- open door
What is the voltage? If you have voltage, good. No voltage, wire is the issue.
Does fuse blow? If the fuse does not blow, good. Blown fuse, wire is shorted.
Does the fuse still blow with no light bulb in socket?
Is the universal socket connected correctly?
With the wires disconnected, test for connectivity on the sockets metal area or gournd and the positive wire.
If you have connectivity, the socket is shorted out.
