I am having a problem with the interior light on my 92 Flareside. The light does not come on when I open the doors. I know the bulb is not dead because the light will come on when I turn the light **** to the left. Anybody have any idea what the problem might be??
I had the same problem on my '94, but a different reason for it. The interior light didn't come on at all, the bed light did, and neither map light would work. It turned out that the only problem was a loose ground screw in the dome light fixture. I tightened it up and everything worked.
First check the fuse for the inside lights, and the light bulb (like you did). If those are okay, see if either door will turn on the dome light. If one door turns on the light, but the other doesn't, you probably have a bad door switch or circuit on the side that doesn't turn on the light. If the light doesn't turn on when all the doors are open, it's most likely the power feed circuit or a bad ground.
If it is the ground in the fixture (which is reasonably common), you can clean it up with a piece of fine grit sandpaper. Spraying generally isn't a long term solution.
Door jamb switches are easy to replace also, and very inexpensive. I'd never bother to clean it. Just replace. $4 well spent.
