Hello all,

Came here for opinions, I have a chance to purchase a 1962 F100 Custom Cab Unibody. I do not know much about these and was wondering if this would be a good option for a long term project (plan on getting it looking decent and to drive not show quality) and the asking price is 2500 obo the frame is solid but I will post the pictures to see if its a decent price, its not in the best shape but, I do know how to weld. Wondering if I should get him down a bit more, or if its even worth rescuing. I do know the steering wheel to my knowledge is not correct and obviously the gas pedal.

I have neither wanted to buy or sell recently so I have no idea what they go for. That said...

I would probably pass on that at that price because of all of the rust and the fact that it is not driveable in it's current state. There are less body parts available for a uni making repair more difficult and expensive. You have the benefit of seeing it in person. Maybe the rust is not as bad as it looks. Pictures can both hide a lot and make things look worse than they really are.

That looks really rough to me. And no tailgate? That's another $1000.00 for a Uni tailgate from what I've seen. I've seen better looking trucks for another $1500.00 or so. Spend a little more and save yourself a lot of work and money.

Just my opinion, Pat

Welcome to FTE. I have two '62 Unibodys. One is the big back window Custom cab and the other much like the one you are lookin at. I have owned both of them for over ten years so what I paid is not relevant but for the last year I have been working on the BBW so I have been following all of the Unibody & Slick year (61-66) forums. The other '62 is my parts truck. I hate to say but what I see in the photos is not worth that asking price. Depending on what motor and the condition, that it's in I would say its a $800-$1200 truck. As has been said the tailgates are pricey. Also that hood looks to be toast. That can be hard to find and really expensive to ship. The steps, door jams and the "torque box" area where the bed floor meets the cab are areas to watch out for how much rust is visible and on the inside. Being that you are in the Midwest the prices are higher than the South or Northwest. It may be worth some travel to get the right truck. Good Luck! Keep us posted. Join some of the Facebook Forums like Unibody Union or 61 thru 63 Unibody... A lot of trucks come up on there for sale.
