I just checked for oil leakage around #8 and there's none but that did used to be a very messy area before I replaced the valve cover gaskets. I put these spark plugs in before I replaced the gaskets so maybe there was still some leftover oil on that plug although the oil does look like its coming from the inside rather than the outside.
I haven't tried that fuel additive tabijan. The van was just barely over the limit of HC so the person doing the test told me a tune up and a little octane booster in the tank would get it to pass but the octane booster made me scratch my head. I figured that would make the fuel combust less and my issue is too much uncombusted fuel in the exhaust but I assume he knows what he's talking about.
Octane boost should make the burn start at the right time and complete at the right time. I imagine, then, it burns more completely. If you compare labels, my guess is octane boost and pass smog are basically the same thing. Pass smog might have additives to clean the O2 sensor and cat.
If it’s sniffer test, definitely go for a good run before a smog check. Then keep it running until it’s your turn. You can do an OBD check cold.
