ESOF switch problems !

ESOF switch problems !

I have a 2000 F250 4x4 Super Duty pickup. I have used the 4x4 many times in the past, but when I needed it today I turned the ESOF Switch to 4x4 high or low and nothing lit up on the dash like it used to, and consequently no 4x4. Where do I start looking? Is there a fuse or relay in the line and if so where are they located? ANY and ALL suggestions, help, instructions greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.....Rick

Swap to a manual shift transfer case.

I actually just converted my esof to manual shift. Still have auto transfer case just built everything to convert it.

Hey Rick, I had a similar problem to you, although it has been constant since I purchased the truck in August 2020. The 4x4 and 4 low lights would illuminate briefly when I turned the ignition on, but nothing would happen when playing with ESOF switch. Just got my truck back on Sunday after several months due to new transmission. A good friend of mine was doing the work on it and after I talked to him a couple times about the non-functioning 4x4 symptoms, I ordered up a transfer case shift motor from Amazon since they are a common failure, and this fixed the problem. I don't believe he had to pull the front drive shaft to put it in either.

My truck is a late 99, the part I got was a Dorman 600-805, it's on Amazon for 98 bucks and two or three day free shipping. In my case, that was all that was wrong and I now have working four wheel drive for the first time since I bought the truck. He did do some tests for voltage on one or both of the connectors although I don't have any more specific information.

If you go to that post & scroll down to dchamberlain's reply, he links to another post where he made a detailed reply on some diagnosis you can do, to reiterate, the truck he is referring to is a 2003 so the fuse numbers are not the same as your truck or my truck, but the steps you can take diagnosing are the same.

Check fuses and relays first!

Mine was the relays right in front of the underhood fuse box next to the brake master cylinder. I just swapped the 2 relays and it worked. I installed 2 new relays and done.

Hey, I can't thank y'all enough. I will start taking all your suggestions a week from now as we are pouring a new concrete floor in an old barn I have to convert it into a Church. You know, there's a lot of difference floating a 60x40 slab now. Seems like I should be able to work concrete at 84 yrs old like I could when I was 40, butt let me tell you Youngin's sumpin, it a lot HARDER NOW 🤣

I worked in concrete for over 20 years and I never want to see wet concrete again, no more floating finishing jitter bugging, shoveling it or striking it off. It's a young mans job and my back and knees are shot from it, so if you're 84yo and still able to do it well God bless you, you have more gumption and energy than I do. LOLOL
