ok, got a 2008 ranger 2.3L
Replaced Alt. & battery.
Before the change out I had the bat. warning light. (key on & while running)
& check eng. light after replacement
no bat. or check engine warning lights
currently no output from alt. to bat.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
fuses 9 & 10 are GOOD.
truck starts and runs fine. just no charging
ALL warning lights on dash working with the exception on the Bat. warning light.
I'm at loss.
My question is this, Can a bad alt. cause the bat. warning light NOT to light up?
Also please remember that the alt. is buried under the AC. unit.
The diagram for the charging system is below. You can see the output wiring for the alternator has fusible links in the wire. If one of these fusible links is burned out, its not going to charge. If you can find the fusible links, you can pull on them and if they stretch they are usually burned out. You could also poke the wire and see if you have 12v on both sides of the fusible link. Or if you could somehow test the voltage at the back of the alternator.
This may not be the problem, but is one thing it could be. They usually burn out when someone changes the alternator without taking the battery cable off the battery. One little oops and a spark when taking the alternator off is all it takes.
