1993 mirror help

Hey guys original mirrors are long gone and trying to see what I need to put some back on this truck. I did some searching and am aware of some of the mounting issues with the aftermarket mirrors. I don't really have a problem with drilling holes and doing body work with the condition that this truck is in. But my question is the big square hole. Is that just something from the mirror that protrudes into the truck? Or do I need some sort of bracket there to mount the mirror to the door?

Do the aftermarket mirrors work okay? And just need new mounting holes? Or do they not work either? There's also two patched

holes in the middle of the door and I have no idea what those are for. I'm going to try to attach pictures to show what I am referring to. Thanks guys

That square hole is probably for power mirrors. The smaller paddle mirrors came with a power option.

Thanks. i do know these doors had the big silver mirrors that stick out from the side of the truck. Not sure what they are called. Maybe they had power at some point??? Not sure on that one

The big mirrors were not power like the smaller paddle mirrors. Could just be using a common door or somewhere along the way someone swapped on doors from a truck that used the smaller power mirrors.

Actually all the paddle mirrors use this hole, they have a leg that protrudes thru it into the door and attaches to the inner skin to keep the mirror from shaking. The presence or absence of an electric harness there doesn't matter for this.

In case of the big "tripod"-type towing mirrors, there is a plastic shim if you wanna call it that which goes between the mirror's bracket and the door skin that covers over the square hole.
