Krytox Applications

I have applied Krytox to the sunroof seals and tracks, and wondering if anyone is using it for other applications with your truck?

Expensive stuff. What's so great about it? Not being a jerk. I really have never heard of it.

It is not a petroleum based grease so it doesn't deteriorate your rubber seals. It has exceptional durability as it doesn't evaporate or degrade. It preserves rubber seals. Krytox I put on the seals for a convertible top 10 years ago is still on the seals. A little goes a long way. A very light coating is all you need so you're not glopping the stuff on things you're trying to protect. Krytox was developed for the aerospace industry to be stable in a vacuum. That one isn't ultimately beneficial to we who are navigating terrestrial vehicles.

It’s pricy. At least for me, I wanted the panoramic sunroof but I also know it is an at risk area for failure. In my research this seems to be one of the best products to mitigate issues with seals, leaking and seizing problems. It contains no silicone and apparently remains effective over a long period of time and in harsh conditions. I guess I look at it as a bit of an insurance deal, because I know at some point I’ll forget about it and go too long without proper maintenance and attention. I have enough of it in my tube that I wondered if there were other areas I should apply it. It seems a little too messy to apply to door seals??

It is pricey but it is worth every penny. My sunroof used to creek and rattle as I drove down the road which drove me bonkers. I put a thick coat of this stuff on the seals and no more creaking and rattling!

We had to use it to lubricate o-rings in oxygen clean systems on submarines.

My wife says that I operate in a vacuum. Being the smart husband, I don't respond and tell her that she sucks the oxygen out of a room.

I've used my near priceless container of Krytox only on the seals of the sunroof. It's probably time to apply it again. So far, my sunroof hasn't had any issues. But it does tend to open suddenly, like the seals are very, um, sealed.

It seems to me the 3in1 RVcare Rubber Seal Conditioner works better than Krytox and significantly cheaper in price.

The 3-in-1 product contains LVP Petroleum Solvent and VOC according to the SDS.

The Krytox contains no petroleum, silicone, solvent, VOCs or distillates and is odor free according to the back of the bottle.
