Up pipes

So I think the passenger side up pipe is leaking a little on the wife's Excursion. If I can confirm I am wanting to pull the turbo and up pipes. At this point I will install bellowed up pipes, rebuild the turbo, and install an aftermarket turbo wheel. Not to mention fixing the oil leaks around the turbo...still on the fence about going back the way it was from the factory or doing the pedestal delete. I can't complain with 245,000 on the clock. My question is what am I likely to run into at the connection between the up pipes and exhaust manifolds...do those likely break off and then have to remove the manifold?

Uppipe to ex manifold are through bolts. I’ve never had an issue removing but it will depend on your particular rust condition. Start spraying with PB Blaster now. You will want to use new bolts which usually come with the uppipes. I coat them with anti-seize during assembly. Good luck!

Exhaust manifold does not need to come off. As Jason mentioned they are thru bolts. If you have a ready way to simply cut the manifold to uppie bolts I'd do that. No sense fighting with bolts that will be replaced anyhow.

Dry fit the bellowed uppie collector to the babys butt of the turbo on the bench. Make sure it all lines up and seats well. My Dormans were problematic. It's too late to fix any of those issues when you are wrangling that beast together in the truck.

If you live in a cold place where the EBPV might be useful, or if you run a tune with an exhaust brake, keep the OEM style pedestal. Otherwise it's a potential oil leak and a delete pedestal and outlet makes sense to me.

Looking for some 300 series stainless steel up-pipes. Where do you think they can be found these days?
Have searched, but no luck.

I don't think the EBPV is a potential oil leak. It's a guaranteed oil leak.

Just my opinion, it's free and worth every penny.

And it only costs a 1/4” pipe plug to keep it from happening. No reason to buy parts to delete EBPV.

Not yet! But, you also live in a climate and use your trucks in a way the EBPV is beneficial. I have rebuilt the pedestal for a number of trucks in the great white north.

In the southern 2/3rds of the country, this feature will never be missed.

If you live in the rust belt like I do, you will find the bolts that are beyond seized in the manifold ears will melt out when using a torch.

You southerners dont like to use exhaust brakes

Besides when it starts to leak in another 20 years, I will have sold the truck years before that

Some southerners that travel and tow heavy through the northern states with the largest mountains in the country don't use an exhaust brake.
