Has anyone had any experience with a Jegs Tuff Stuff alternator for Fords? I’ve been researching generator to alternator threads on here and all I seem to see is GM one, two or three wire replacements to the point I am more confused than ever. This Jegs is a one wire, 100 amp output. Will this work on my 61’ 223?
I'm sure there are Ford parts that can get this done, and people here who know how to do it. NTL, when I rewired my truck, I found Powermaster and called them about my application (one wire conversion, motor type, likely electrical load, etc) and they easily steered me to a good solution. It might work for you. Powermaster
Go to your local pick your part and look for a pre '96 Ford truck with a 3rd generation small frame alternator ( it looks funny because it doesn't have an external fan). Pull the alt and all of the wiring that goes to it. Then take it back to your truck and hook the the big yellow wire to the starter solenoid and the green wire to your idiot light. That should take care of all your charging system problems. Also you will have to change out the pulley, you maybe able to use the pulley that you have now or source one while you are getting the alt. They are not that hard to change. The second option I would suggest would be a 2nd generation alt. from a Ford Tempo. same deal with the wiring but the the pulley that you need will already be there.
Good luck!
Thanks for all the information. Here is what I think I understand so far, my truck is a Sunday driver that I would like to use more often. It doesn’t even have a radio, I probably won’t be driving at night. It sounds to me like a 1G alternator will bolt right up where the generator is now and I could use my regulator as well. Am I wrong?
