Interested in a 6.0

Hello guys new here but wanted to ask for you guys opinion on a 6.0 I’m currently looking at f-250s with the 6.0,7.3(they are crazy expensive) possibly 6.8 but I kinda want to get a diesel but I understand the 6.0 has a bad wrap but are more in my price range than a 7.3. But my question is what’s a good price to buy these at they’re kinda pricey here in Cali and also how many miles should I cap off at when looking for them and can they be reliable thank you

If you are dead set on getting a diesel because you want one then by all means get one. My 6.0 came to me through a death in the family. I would not have considered a one ton diesel. I do not tow heavy nor did I have a business that needed the diesel capability. These engines require looking after. You need to monitor the engine (fuel pressure included) to keep ahead of a smallish problem that will become a larger problem. These engines require maintenance at prescribed intervals- I know you might be thinking, whatever, every engine requires maintenance. No. These engines "must" have their maintenence. Even an oil change can be expensive. Can they be reliable? Yes. This forum has many members keeping their 6.0 running after nearly two decades. And yes, there are those that could not get away from the 6.0 fast enough. The Tech folder at the top of the forum is your friend. This is probably the first thing you should look at written up by Bismic:

The 6.0 is in your price range until you perform all the preventative maintenance and bullet proof items the previous owner didn't do. I don't suggest a diesel unless it's going to make you money and you are ok with spending 2x-4x more when fixing the truck.

is the 6.8 a good option that has power and reliable I know the 5.4 is underpowered and has mixed reviews some people love them and some hate them

thanks you for the insight tbh I do want a diesel but I don’t really have a business that would involve it either

The 6.8 is typically considered a reliable motor but did have spark plugs issues with different years. If you go V10 I would target the 3 V motors. I would stay away from the 5.4 in a Super Duty for various reasons. The one thing I really miss from my 6.0PSD was the turbo whistle that was music to my ears.

I think others will have more experience with the gas engines and will be able to provide you valuable information.

The most trouble free rig would be a 6.2
gas. If you can afford it, 2013 and up.
