Police don't get money from toll booths. The whole thing is a mess, with private companies running the toll roads. The whole idea of toll roads was to remove the tolls once the roads were paid for, but that rarely happens. Here in Central Texas, toll roads are highly avoided. As a result, congestion on the public roads has not eased. A one way trip on Texas 130, from Seguin to Georgetown is $14 for a passenger car/light truck. As a result, that road is empty most of the time, even with an 85 MPH speed limit. I rarely travel through Austin, but the few times I do makes it worthwhile to me. A daily drivers and most large trucks avoid it. It's such a big failure that the state has considered buying it and opening it without tolls, just to relieve traffic on IH35 through Austin.
Anyway, they have tolled me there with just a rear plate. daily users have an RF card. I'm glad there are no toll roads in my county or surrounding counties.
