what are people doing with these trucks that make a auto tailgate so valuable ? in 30yr of driving i cant recall a single instance that i wished i had one of those tailgates
The only time I use it is when I'm backing up to my gooseneck trailer, and I can hit the button and back under the gooseneck without the extra step of stopping/opening tailgate, and backing up again.
My 17 tailgate was not even similar to my 22 in operation. The 17 was quick and easy to close, had the recall and never opened by itself. The 22 has to be slammed to close. Very tight on the latch. Only had it for 3 weeks and has worked properly for 1500 miles.
I've tried to recreate this with my 21 and cannot. If the truck is running and I'm in the seat I cannot get the tailgate to drop with the fob or the button on the dash. If I remember correctly I have to unlock the doors, or open the driver's door to get it to drop by either button.
I was worried too from all the reports from earlier models, and was ready to do a Bungie cord like other posters, but haven't had an issue in the year I've owned the truck and 8k miles towing the 5er.
