ESP Recomendations

My 2019 6.7 is getting close to going out of the factory warranty, and I've been debating buying the ESP through Flood Ford before their prices go up. Wanted to get some ideas on what "package" people were purchasing and their reasoning. Guess I can make an argument for about any of them, so looking for some feedback as to others thinking in what they did and why. Truck is now located in HI, and not nearly used like intended for the time being, not much towing at all, barely ever a decent load in the bed. That being said, the climate here worries me a bit, and once I get back to the mainland in a few years she'll resume her intended purposes more often. Thanks for any info. Also, would take any good advice for this type of climate with the diesel.

I'm in the same situation as you, bumper to bumper is going to run out in a few months so I'm planning to buy an ESP soon. PremiumCARE is the only plan I have considered based on it covering the most parts. I don't see a reason to consider a lower plan. Also, having factory LED's the bulb coverage is a must. I was set on 8yr/100k miles until I realized that would be a waste. If I were to double the average miles per year I do now, I still wouldn't reach 100k mi. during the plan term. So I have decided to go with the longest term (8yrs) and a mileage that is more in line with my use. Doing that saves me around $800 vs. the 8yr/100k that I originally was set on.

I put 30,000 miles per year on my trucks, So I skip the ESP, since I'll run out of miles long before I run out of years.
I've owned a 2000, 2003, 2006, 2011, 2015, 2017, 2020. I've never had an ESP.
Yes, I've had to replace, brakes, batteries, shocks on all trucks. I've had to replace one set of front hubs, one alternator, a clock spring, and a couple other sensors in the 700,000 miles I've ran on those trucks. I consider myself "Self Insured" now. Meaning I've saved way more over the years of not buying an ESP to cover pretty much any repair I might have to pay for.

Look at how you own a vehicle, how long you keep it and how many miles you put on. Make an educated decision.

I bought the 8yr/125K esp when I bought my truck in 2019.

having to do it again I would not buy it

reason is I have had trouble getting warranty work scheduled ....one case got rescheduled every 90 days for a year...then they cancelled

the esp is worthless if you cant get work scheduled.

As Dave Ramsey says.. The ESP's are a money maker for the dealerships and he says "if you can't afford to fix your truck, you can't afford the truck". Makes sense to me lol

I guess you would have to care who he is, and care about what he says lol. I had to look him up. Looks like he also says noone should buy a new vehicle until their net worth is over 1 million. Based on that alone I would have to believe not many here care what he says. Curious what he thinks about auto insurance. Should we only have the state required minimum, and only drive a car that you can afford to replace if totaled?

I don't disagree with the idea that the house always wins, but I see the ESP as insurance, it's relatively cheap, and if you are aware that it may never be needed, isn't going to keep food off your plate, then there is no harm. If I were the kind to trade in every 3 years or so I wouldn't get an ESP.

I bought the ExtraCare package, $0 deductible, 7 yr/ 48K miles, and added first day rental coverage. Total was $880 through Flood Ford online, and I used $210 in FordPass points generated from the purchase of the truck, so net cost to me was $670.

This truck was not intended to be a daily driver, so I don't expect to put a ton of miles on it, but I do expect to keep it a very long time. (It replaced a 21 year old GMC.)

Ohhh I totally agree with you. I've never liked Dave Ramsey, but that quote just made sense lol...
What I don't like about the ESP's, and perhaps I don't really understand how they work, is that it realy doesn't do what they advertise. When they say 135k miles for instance, the way I understand it, it doesn't ADD 135 miles, but only 100000 miles Over the factory. Why they just can't be honest and say what and for how long, I will never understand. To me, this is why IF I was ever to get one, it would make more sense to get it just before the factory warranty wears out. Am I wrong in my assumption?

So the way I understand it (which is what bother me about it) is that you got an extra 13k miles for that 650 bucks correct?

I got another 4 years of coverage for that $670. I'm unlikely to hit 48K miles in that full 7 years from date of delivery.

Thank in your case I guess it's worth it.. I easily put on 12k a year or more on my vehicles, so it just wouldn't be worth it for me

Agreed, the model for the ESP is that 87% of the premium is commission and overhead, while only 13% is paid out in repairs. In the long run you are better off saving the money, and paying the repairs yourself.

While Dave is a little extreme, we started following his plan 15 years ago, and it has worked out well for us. We didn't have any debt other than one car payment back then, and paid off multiple CC's monthly, but life is so much easier now.

2018 6.7 Lariat with all the options. I went with an 8/125k Extra care. My big worry was the injectors, etc. The extracare provided the right coverage for the right price. I also added the first day rental which I get on recalls, etc which is nice. I bought it from Joel at Two Rivers. Credit card billed in 24 installments at zero interest. I could have paid in cash, but why? They were cheaper than flood at the time.
