Extended diesel warranty worthwhile?

I'm looking for opinions.
I have a 2011 F-250 with the 6.7L PSD on order (due May 2).
The factory warranty on the engine is 5 yrs/100,000 miles.
This truck will be mostly for pulling a camper and I expect less than 15,000 miles a year.
Normally, I never buy extended warranties, but I'm considering the Ford extended diesel warranty of 7 years and 200,000 miles. Why? Because the 6.7L PSD design is new and who knows what problems will show up in a few years.

I don't know the cost of the warranty and if it's too much, forget it. But if it's a few hundred bucks on a $64K truck, is it worth it?

It was posted previously that you can purchase the warranty down the road before the factory warranty expires. So it's a decision that can be put off a few years. Can someone confirm this one more time?

This is true. The only risk to waiting is that the price will likely go up. For me, I'll wait to see if I "feel" like there will be problems. Otherwise, I'm happy to play the odds which are looking very good towards great reliability, statistically speaking.

I have a F-250 and Ford told me at time of purchase the cost was $2600.00 and that I could hold off for three years, but the cost would be high at that time... I have now had quotes of $1800......
I love my diesel.. Ford did a great job in this design of the engine and transmission.. I do feel the Truck could ride a little better on rough roads for a $55,000 truck, but not big thing, for I get wonderful MPG 21 to 25.5 on the highway with no load, with no wind or hills. I now have 8400 mi;es on my truck and only one small problem with the drivers lower door seal came half off, Ford replaced the seal...
Good Luck

Thanks! That's very helpful. That's WAY too much money for an extra two years of warranty.

I bought my 2011 6.7 in October 2010 and at that time I was told the warranty was 5 years or 60,000 miles on the motor and drive train as opposed to the 100,000 mile warranty that used to be on the motor only. I purchased for around $1800.00 a bumper to bumper warranty on everything.

it may seem like a lot of money but that price is less then one repair in most cases.

I too was told the warranty was 60k miles. I personnally think the ext warranty is worth the $. If the nav unit ****s the bed, it is $2,000, if the trans goes...who know what that thing costs, then there is the engine......

Yes I agree, it's way to much money for just 2 yrs of extended warranty but with the cost of major repairs it might just be a blessing, unless one doesn't plan on keeping this Ford longer than 5 years.. I have one quote of $1800.00 I think it might be good insurance. My problem is the quote looked like it came from Ford but just not sure it was a Ford quote but a third party selling warranties, which I want no part of!
Enjoy your new Truck, they are beauties!

60 is power train & gas engines.
Diesel is 5/100 for the engine..... Not tranny, etc

On delivery I took the 100,00 mile bumper to bumper and I will extend the drive train warranty to 200,000 when I get close to expiration. I like the insurance, lots of expensive things can and will happen. Like Fram says "Pay me now or pay me later". I pull a 5er and do not need the worry.... Especially on a first year power train...

Do you recall the cost of the $100,000 bumper-to-bumper?

Most dealers will negotiate on the price of the extended warranty. In my case I told them I had a set amount including taxes for the truck purchase and they made it work. No harm in asking them for a lower price, they will come down some on the warranty package.

Thanks CascadeF250 for this information, makes it nice talking to my dealer armed for bear... I waited for years for Ford to design this Truck and have a lot of faith, but will feel much better with some insurance, with diesel repair cost's as they are!
