well homework shouldnt take away time from my the rest of my life. i spent enough time at school, so if they give me homework i wont do it. tough. i have a life outside of school and im gonna live it.
im trying to keep up with all my payments so that way i have good credit built up down the road when i need to buy a house or something, im not gonna let some stupid worksheet for homework get in the way of my future.
The sooner you get used to the idea of doing homework the better. From age 16 on I worked after school and all summer long to pay my way through life. I did all of my homework all the time, because I considered it a privlege to get an education. I went on to College and used those study habits to my advantage. While others seemed to struggle, I had no problems due to good study habits. If you want to just coast through school and be less then your best then by all means do so. It makes it easier for my children to get the best jobs. I'm not saying you can't earn a good living without a proper education, but having a proper education gives you so many more options and oppurtunities to succeed. So why would you want to short change yourself? Your attitude about your future is extremely short sighted if you think school and homework is a waste of time. But like the saying goes "the world needs ditch diggers too..........." I'll make sure I say hi when I see you emptying my trash!
i plan on going through an apprenticeship either into bricklaying, carpentry, or plumbing, something along those lines.
im not saying im against school, i just dont think i should have a ton of homework to do every night when i need to work and do other things.
i personally think its more important that im out there working, getting work experience and getting skilled working with others, that sitting alone at home with my eyes buried in a book.
There's nothing wrong with any of those professions. I laid bricks, landscaped and did carpentry all through school and after College for a few years. I eventually put my education to work and got a job in Pharmaceuticals as a sales representative. I still have all of those skills from early on to fall back on if I ever fall on hard times, and they have proven invaluable around the house. I d alot projects myself. But manual labor jobs get old quick. As you get older they get harder. You should see what else is available to you, the decisions you make now will effect you the rest of your life. When you see a guy drive by in a mercedes or BMW you should say to yourself what does that guy do for a living? Because what ever he did to get there, you can certainly do the same. If you limit yourself now, you have only yourself to blame. I grew up in a poor family with a single mother. I earned everything that I have. My mother taught me from day one, never settle for what others give you, take what you deserve. I make over $225k a year now. How? because I didn't settle! Neither should you.
Too much homework? Waaaaaaaaa. Wait till you get a real job with a BOSS who will impose deadlines and cranky customers that call you on the phone when things (often beyond YOUR control) are slipping behind. Then you can experience the more mature version of homework generally called overtime. Oh, if the job sucks just remember that America is a free country and nobody forces us to go to the job by holding a gun to our head.
In reality, homework is just preparing you for the real world and how things work. Many jobs require results that are schedule driven. For example, as a Project Engineer, if I failed to deliver those 40 machines on time, what about the semi parked out back waiting to transport, electricians, riggers, plumbers, etc that have all been scheduled to work on the project based on MY delivering on time? It wrecks havoc to say the least and can have financial impact on your company and ultimately you.
Enjoy school/college while it lasts; you will probably never again in you whole life have more free time until you retire.
id much rather be working, i dont care how much time work takes up, im more than willing to put in the hours.
i dont want to be driving a bmw or something, i prefer a old ford truck. so i dont care if im "rich", money isnt important to me. as long as im making enough to get by without worry, ill be happy.\
i know that as i get older, labor jobs will be hard on me, but thats what i want to do, i dont believe in office jobs, i prefer to doin the dirty work.
Overtime=extra money. Bottom line, if you are working more than your normal amount, then you are still getting paid to do so. If you are not getting paid in any way, then you are either really nice and need to work for me, or need to find a new job.
Ok, I personally dont think theres anything wrong with a 10-15 min homework assignment to get you ready for tommorows lesson plan, but when they sit there and explain somthing, for example, cell resperation, and they give you a couple worksheets, and you have no idea what anything is, then you come back the next day with the worksheet not done, and you say "I didnt get it" and they say too bad, thats a zero, i think that is where the problem lies and thats what i'm getting at. Luckily, our Biology teacher doesnt give out homework, with the acception of lab write ups which i actually (hate to say this) sometimes enjoy doing. So the next day when we come back, we smooth things over so we all understand things, then we'll do a lab demonstrating it, then do a write up on why it happened. I know that i learn better this way oppoesed to him handing out 2 worksheets and saying turn them in tommorow.
I think homework orgionally started out as exposing you to a little bit of the information, so incase you dont understand somthing, you can ask the teacher the next day and have him explain it to you, and probably the whole class because they dont get it either. Unfortunatley it evloved into, "ok, heres 2 worksheets they're due tommorow." then you dont understand the info, so you bring the incompleted sheets back to school, and they say, "too bad, -20pts" Then they'll explain it to you.
If i was getting paid to do homework you can bet all of it would be done completely and perfectly on time. I know people are going to say, "but you are getting paid for it in your future". But when i go to work they dont pay me by saying, "but your learning things everyday (which i seriously am)" and tell me it will pay of in other jobs.
To anyone who says you can't have a life, work, and go to school. For the first two years of college i worked a 40 hour a week job while taking 16 credits a semester. Now, i work three jobs totaling almost 50 hours a week, and am taking 19 credits...I still manage to get out once or twice a week to have a good time....its all in the time management. and in highschool, i worked two jobs, wrestled (two practices a day) and maintained a good class load. School isn't impossible, and just think, a little sacrifice today is worth a whole lot when your out in the real world.
