Heres what truck I plan on getting, 2000-2002 SD CC V10 w/4.30 gears. I've been looking at the SL kit for the new SD, but have a question. How bad is the ride, did it get MUCH harsher than factory? I know its going to stiffen up some (which is good), but how stiff did it get. Can you feel every bump/hole in the road?
Not sure if the springs are different from Chevy to Ford (more leafs or not), but the springs on my Z are stiff...I dropped the pressure in my 35's to 28 in the rear and 32 front and its still SUPER harsh.
How about Skyjacker? Since its a softride set-up do you loose payload? What about ProComp? FabTech?
I've searched and found some info., but all the abriveations make it hard to find certain things.
I run a couple year old 8 " SL kit, , the ride with stock tires is a little harder than stock , with my bigger tires it just about feels like the stock ride. I needed a stiff front spring because I haul around a snow plow for 4 months out of the year. The new SL kits have a higher leaf count , which allows the use of thinner leaf material. The 8" Select Series springs are 10-leaf pack. Using more leafs yields a progressive leaf stack, which produces a much smoother spring rate curve throughout the suspension cycle. Additionally, as overall spring pack thickness increases, the amount of arch that is needed to attain a given lift height decreases. Reduced arch translates into less inter-leaf friction and less shackle movement, all of which improves ride quality. And, it is not a "one spring rate for all" there are different designs for trucks with a V-8 gas engine or the heavier diesel and V-10.

Excellent post Yeti. I have the new superlift and it is stiffer than stock. Many say that if you put billstien 5100 shocks on it will help quite a bit.
