6 speed synchros?

6 speed synchros?
Looking at a 99 with a 6 speed. Owner says 3 and 4th won't engage and 5th pops out. What are the chances this is anything other than the synchros? I don't mind rebuilding the trans if it's just synchros.

Doesn't sound like synchros to me. What do 3rd and 4th do? Synchros would cause the gears to grind on upshift and downshift, but if you double clutch and RPM match you would be able to get it engaged smoothly(ish) depending on your familiarity with the vehicle. 5th sounds like it isn't shimmed correctly, and is not fully engaging so it pops out. I would take it to a transmission shop, and have them drive it. They'll be able to tell you a lot in the first few hundred feet.
