I have a Retrax mx on my current truck 2017 F350 Lariat. And have a truck on order 2022 F350 Lariat. I have agreed to sell the current cover with the truck.
The current bed cover has been pretty good. Had issues with the rails shifting. They have changed the mounting system and got new rails and it has stayed in place. But recently had a bearing fail. Customer service wanted 65$ for a bearing kit. It is the same bearing in a skateboard. Got 10 for 12$ on Amazon. Was not horrible experience, but the lady got a little snarky in her email.
Gator recoil looks promising, but only locks at certain spots. But half the cost of another Retrax mx or the gator comparable model.
Is roll in lock the choice.? Share the your likes and dislikes of different models.
I’m on my second Retrax and have been quite happy with them. I considered Roll n Lock because of the smaller canister, but didn’t like that you have to mount latches on the tailgate. I really didn’t want to drill holes in my tailgate and didn’t want something sticking up when trying to slide things across the tailgate. As far as Gator trax. I’m pretty sure they are the same company as Retrax. I considered the Recoil, but didn’t want to have to open the tailgate in order to open the cover.

I didn't know you had to drill. That doesn't do it for me, at least for now with a 2 day old truck.
I had the Gator on my previous truck and the Ford version of the MX on the current truck. Definitely no comparison. Both my wife and son could not easily operate the Gator.
Retrax Pro MX is on my F450 and just purchased a F350 SRW with the Ford Brand retractable top... It's the Retrax Pro MX but will be covered by the 8 year extended warranty since ordered with the truck....
I have the roll n lock and didn’t have to drill anything… I’ve had it for 3 years and transferred it from my 2019 to my 2022… works well IMO.
The tailgate extrusion is what I was referring to on the Roll n Lock. Maybe not all of the models have it, but I got the impression that it was part of their standard system.

Thanks for any help.
don’t get a gator cover!! They advertise them as ReTrax copies but not near the quality. My son had one a few years ago and it was a piece of junk. Constantly having to adjust it and leaked terrible. Sometimes you get what you pay for.
I purchased my Pace Edwards in 2009 for my 2008. Put 68k miles on the cover. Moved it to my 2011 for another 70k miles in 5 years, then to my 2015 for 97k miles in 6.5 years.
Customer service was always great, but rarely needed it. Only with questions on initial install and to replace the Teflon trac pieces twice in all that time.
That had only certain track stops, but it was pretty simple to remove those long pieces and add (cut out) new stops so I could fully cover an area forward of my 5th wheel hitch when traveling.
Would buy another for my inbound 22, but the locking mechanism is now underneath, and I would not be able to access it without dropping the tailgate, and could not access for the 5er forward area I have enclosed.
So, oem is being fitted on my 22 in March hopefully. At time of order oem was a bit cheaper than just buying the cover from supply houses. Not sure if that is still the case. May drop from order if shortages continue to plague production.

Have had the Truck Covers USA cover since 2017, no problems.
I think it's better built than Retrax, plus canister is smaller.
bak Revolver
had this on last truck for 6 years, one of the best covers out there… waiting for it to come in, back ordered….
Had the bak revolver 2, but you need the (4) for 2022
I am in the same boat- looking for a retractable cover for my 22 when it comes in. AFAIK- the Roll N Lock NO longer attaches to the tailgate. If someone has a newer one (say in the last year or two) - please confirm. I would NOT want to be forced to open the cover with a key every time I open the tailgate. On my last Pace Edwards cover there were quite a few places between the aluminum slats that leaked- I like the vinyl cover on the roll and lock for that reason- no leaks possible except on the edges/tracks. I've always liked the Retrax brand. Maybe that is the direction I'll go. OP= good luck with your decision.
I was just on the Roll N Lock site. The installation instructions are on there and it does not show any screws into the tail gate so I guess it has been re-designed. The only minor issue I have had was leaves and debris eventually plug the drain tubes but it's easy to clean when you open the cover. Can't do that on the retrax as you have to slide the entire unit back.
