Good evening gents I have a couple of questions for anyone with a Wineguard 360+ and Gateway $g LTE WiFi Router. I have a 2019 AF990 with an original Magnadyne TV antenna ( think mushroom ) and also have the RV Link WiFi Extender installed inside. I don't know how many times I have sweated driving under a brach overhang thinking it was going to catch on that device and yank it out so I'm going to replace it with a lower profile unit and hopefully not worry as much.
On the roof under the head of my existing antenna I have (1) coaxial cable that goes directly down to the TV area and terminates on the backside of the coax cover plate.
Also have a Radio antenna cable that of course goes to the backside of the stereo in the galley and a Blue Cat 5 data cable for the WiFi Extender that connects up to the Router that I mounted inside the forward clothes locker area.
The specs on the new unit say it will work with UHF, VHF and FM do they mean FM Radio? If so I don't see a place to connect it up to. I am going to call Wineguard tomorrow to see if this unit will work for my stereo or not just wondering if anyone knows offhand or not.
So removing the old Antenna, Extender, and Router is a no brainer I got that.
But on the new unit it has a connection thru-port for future Satellite hook up. But I only have one coaxial cable and here's what I did to get another one up there. If you look inside the upper righthand cabinet above the sink on the righthand side you will see a removable panel. Behind it you'll find a "spare" coaxial cable labeled "Roadtrip Satellite" coiled up that goes up to the roof ( prewired for future ).
To locate the other end you have to remove the main skyline plastic shroud cover on the inside roof of the cabin. Remove the sliding blinds first (4 screws), and then lower the shroud and you will have a view of the inside of your roof construction. On the forward inside edge you should see a precut channel for access to the other end of the coaxial cable and a red and white wire that goes where Im not sure yet. They might be for 12v but have no voltage on them now as I will need a switched 12v power connection for the Router.. So I can route the roof cable along by removing some foam to where it needs to go up thru the roof to be under the new dome housing and I can then run the coiled up cable down the wall ( remove stereo ) and push through to where the new TV cover plate will go.
Will post up a couple pics tomorrow after I talk to Wineguard and NW about the two wires.
So I got in touch with Wineguard about the connection for the stereo antenna cable. It will connect on the backside of the "new" TV cover plate that is in the forward sleeping area. I need to get 12v +/- for the power and then connect the original TV antenna on the roof, the drivers side exterior outlet for cable and then the radio antenna. Then I need a switched 12v +/- for the new gateway router that will mount on the overhead roof next to the skylite. I am going to use the 4c 24guage Cat 5 data cable for the 12v feed since its rated for 30v. The green pair will be neg and the brown pair will be the pos.
As far as NW goes they told me that the red and white wires SHOULD be coiled up and taped with the Coaxial cable that I found in the overhead cabinet right hand side. Couldn't find them for shi_ so as I looked closer I see them cut off flush with the opening. No way to splice onto them without notching a larger hole upward 2 inches or so and then having to patch that up so they won't be used in this install. Heres a couple pics.
Heres the original antenna on roof.
Here is the removable cover in the upper cabinet area and the coaxial cable coiled up.
Pulled it down below to possible use for future.
Heres where it is on the frontside of the skylite. I will need to notch out the foam to route it over to where it will go up to the roof dome as there is a connection specifically on the antenna dome for future satellite antenna connection point on the outside of the dome so I wouldn't need to remove the new antenna to access it if needed.
The blue tape shows the approximate area that the Gateway router will be mounted.
I will post up when finished with project as Im just waiting for it to quit raining and the router to show up.
That is a massive solar disconnect switch! Very informative and waiting to see the finished product. We are waiting for mobile Starlink and if we ever need internet/tv probably go with a BGAN terminal and buy short term packages. Our 990 will hopefully arrive sometime in Mayish. Love AF campers.
The Disconnect switch is actually smaller than the regular full size ones. Anyway the rain stopped and I got the rest of my stuff to complete 99% of the install.
So the first thing I did was remove the existing antenna on the roof as well as remove all the old dicor without tearing a hole in the roof fabric. There is a big 2" hole from the roof down into the foam area where the existing cables come up topside. So I went back down and dug out a small channel in the overhead roof foam over to the 2' hole to run my Sat cable through to the new dome.
I had to drill a 3/4" hole through the 2" opening to penetrate the interior roof to drop the 12vdc wires and the (3) small wires for the WiFi Gatway router that will be mounted down there.
I measured and layed out everything BEFORE drilling to make sure everything would fit correctly.
So I installed some Buytl tape on the bottom of the antenna dome and screwed it down with the (6) #12 screws that came with the unit. I then squeezed out some Dicor along the edges and the screw heads to weatherproof it all and went below to wrap it all up.
Now I won't be so paranoid about catching a low branch when heading off grid
I mounted the baseplate, plugged in my 12vdc and the (3) small cables the go to the 4g and WiFI and clicked the router in place.
I had already connected up and mounted my new TV switch plate to the side wall arae and plugged in the TV.
So in the next few days I'll try out the TV Antenna and see if it gets any better reception here at the house and I will
have the wife check into getting a new ATT sim card and setting up a data plan that will be a bit better for us when traveling.
Thats all her world I just do the easy stuff.
Gonna replace my (2) 100ahr 3 1/2yr old lead/acid battery's in about a month or so. Got everything ordered and now I wait. Will probably post up some pics on that as well.
I went to check voltage on the wireless module as it has a small led light that shows status and I get zip, zero.
Verified 12vdc +/- on the plug directly being plugged into it and the plug has 12vdc, correct polarity but when plugged in nothing.
Called Wineguard and they didn't really have any ideas they just said to return it for another.
Ordered the unit online of course and it came from Camping World website. So I called them and told them my sad story and they said they would send me a shipping label for Fed-ex and that they were going to 2-day air ship me a replacement.
Excellent customer service in this day and age. Didn't have to threaten or swear at anyone, hopefully the new one works correctly. Not a big deal to ship it back. Wireless unit, mounting bracket, switch and cover plate and a few screws so took about 10 minutes to pack up. We'll see hope for the best.
Just my luck.
